Frankly, I am devastated. Not because I am a tennis fan in general but because I like Maria Sharapova. She lost the Wimbledon Finals. It would’ve been better if she lost to someone famous — like the Williams or someone — but, no, she just had to lose to the unassuming, World 8th seed Petra Kvitova. No, I’m not judging Kvitova. It’s simply my Sharapova bias that’s going on berserk.
Reading the ESPN article depressed me to the lowest point of depression. How could Sharapova lose? It would’ve been another Grandslam for her had she won. But watching the video clip, it was a well-deserved win for Kvitova. Sharapova was kind of…all over the place. And Kvitova’s was just there, standing at practically one section of the grass. I don’t know if Kvitova’s being a lefty had some effect but it is quite obvious that she was having a hard time. Sharapova’s returns were giveaways — easy enough for Kvitova to convert them into powerful groundstrokes. And so, by the end of the game, Sharapova lost due to a service ace. It was Kvitova’s only ace in the game but that was all she needed to win.
With all that done, all I can do now is mope and pat myself on the back to console myself. Sharapova lost — that’s all there is to it. I’ll just wait for the next tournament and hope that she gets another title. For now, I’m going to get some tissues and bawl my eyes out.
